NCJW, Louisville Section History

National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW), Louisville Section, is the oldest and largest women's organization in Jefferson County, Kentucky.

NCJW is known throughout board rooms and government offices for its track record of "getting things done."

Currently, NCJW supports many Louisville community service projects.

Many of the projects that NCJW has developed go on to be independent social service agencies, such as CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), Bridgehaven, and KYA (Kentucky Youth Advocates).

In 1994, NCJW began monitoring domestic violence litigation in Jefferson County. This Court Watch project is now being studied and copied throughout other communities across the country.

This year, NCJW is forming a task force to study how a separate domestic violence court can be implemented in Jefferson County.

From establishing the first summer kindergarten in 1897 and the first free lunch program in public schools in 1914, to opening NCJW Parkside, a senior adult day care in 1986, NCJW continually focuses on the need of our community.

NCJW, Louisville Section, is part of the national NCJW which has over 200 sections throughout the United States and 100,000 members.
