NCJW, Louisville Section supports the following projects.

Community Projects

The Louisville Section pioneered in bringing federally supported day care to Louisville.  The California Area Family Development Center was started in 1971 with NCJW funds and volunteers.  NCJW continues to provide partial funding and NCJW members sit on the California Daycare advisory board.

California Area Family Dev. Center

Chavurat Shalom is a weekly program designed to meet the needs of Jewish seniors by providing social, intellectual, spiritual, and physical activities, in collaboration with its partner agencies, the Jewish Community Center and Jewish Family & Career Services.  Our section of NCJW provides funding which helps defray some of the costs of this program and help ensure the participation of those who would otherwise not be able to afford to attend the programs, activities, and lunches.

Community Coordinated Child Care (4C) is dedicated to the development, improvement and coordination of high quality child care.

Gilda’s Camp campers 2009

Gilda’s Club offers support to those people affected by cancer, for the patient as well as the family.  Each summer NCJW, Louisville sections provides funding and volunteers for Gilda’s Camp.

NCJW, Louisville Section, funds a program that provides financial stipends and in-kind products to at risk seniors for the primary purpose of improving healthy living.  This program also provides the opportunity for elderly persons to get transportation to medical appointments.

The Resource Center welcomes teachers, parents, youth leaders and counselors who wish to bring a more innovative atmosphere into their classrooms and homes.

NCJW funds a self-concept development and social skills enhancement program for seriously abused teenage girls through Maryhurst.

Text Box: Service to New Americans

The Nearly New Shop opens its doors to the New Americans and helps to provide clothing and furniture for them.

Since 1921, the Student Loan Fund has helped many students who, without financial assistance, would be unable to finish their education.  Low interest-bearing loans are made to qualified persons.  In addition, to NCJW support, the fund is kept active by repayments from previous recipients.

NCJW, in conjunction with The Nearly New Shop and Home of the Innocence, provides basic toiletries in backpacks or totes to children who find themselves being moved through the foster care system.

Israel Project

The Louisville Section sends funds to Israel to directly help at-risk women, children, and families.
